How the Age Gap Is Calculated
The calculator finds the calendar-accurate difference between the two birth dates, breaking it down into complete years, complete months and remaining days — the same logic used for calculating a single person's age, applied between two dates instead of one date and today.
Worked example: Person A born 14 June 1990 and Person B born 2 March 1993 have a gap of 2 years, 8 months and 19 days — Person A is older. The calculator works this out by counting complete years first, then complete months in the remainder, then the leftover days, exactly like counting on a calendar rather than dividing total days by 365.
Typical average age gaps for reference: sibling gaps are most commonly reported in the 2-4 year range, while committed couples in most large surveys average roughly a 2-3 year gap — use this as general context, not a rule, since individual relationships vary widely.
